I Can Read:

Your child is tested with flashcards and all they have to do is read the words. It does not hurt to have them learn how to spell the words they are learning. I do have them practice spelling them in class. Just keep in mind sometimes it takes awhile to pass a list. Please remind your child not to get discouraged. I always tell them to try their best!

Readers corner:

  • When reading at night with your child ask them to find sight words in books.
  • Ask them what author does and Illustrator does?
  • Ask what happened in the beginning of the story, middle, and end of story.
  • Ask them to sound out 3 letter cvc works (hat, man, top, ect) in books. Dr. Seuss book have tons of these words.

Math

We just started working on counting on from a number with using ten frames or tally marks. They are recognizing that is a ten frame has ten boxes filled in start counting from 10 (if each box is filled in) then 11, 12, ect. Tally marks are in groups of 5 so same concept.
